Hot Tip Tuesday: Chrome tab groups
…and previews
Chrome Tab Groups is a brand new feature that makes tab management in Chrome an awful lot easier. I’ve been running Chrome beta for months now to have access to it, but it’s made its way to the public release so you, too, can be amazed.
The feature allows you to select multiple tabs (shift+click works) and nest them into a single, nameable, collapsible group. You can have as many as you want and can even color-code them.
One thing that’s missing is “session saving”. It’d be nice to be able to permanently save tab groups so they can be closed and reopened at any time. To do this in the meantime you need to use browser bookmarks which, as we know, kind of suck.
Bonus: Tab previews
Another feature on the way and which is part of Chrome beta is tab previews. Hover any tab and see a small preview of that page under your cursor (this will be familiar to users of Safari).
Put these two features together and Chrome has taken a giant step forward in tab management.
I’m looking forward to proper, native session saving in the future. In the mean time, this is a big step forward.
